Beginning with the January 2001 courses, the national office must receive registration and fees for a minimum of six participants for any safety training course no later than the pre-registration deadline, or the course will be cancelled. If a course is cancelled, any pre-registered checks will be refunded. Quarterly pre-registration deadlines are assigned for all courses, including safety training and elective, within any given quarter. The pre-registration deadlines for 2004 courses are Dec. 4 (Jan. courses), Jan. 8 (Feb./March courses), Feb. 20 (April/May/June courses), May 20 (July/Aug./Sept. courses) and Aug. 19 (Oct./Nov./Dec. courses).

The Safety Training course fee is $60 if a participant registers before the pre-registration deadline. The Safety Training course fee is $75 if a participant's registration and fee is postmarked after the pre-registration deadline or if the course was added after the annual deadline (see Late Scheduled Courses section below). A text fee of $16.75 is additional.

Each of the 42 associations within USA Diving may request up to two Safety Training courses per year. The largest associations may schedule up to three courses. To schedule a course, complete and submit the Application for Member Services form from Downloads (titled "Member Services, Request form") no later than one month prior to the fall USAS convention. Course information must include a date, site and local contact for it to be considered. Associations that do not submit requests will be assigned dates based on instructor availability. It is recommended that associations schedule spring and fall Safety Training courses back-to-back with elective courses.

Courses added after the annual schedule is determined (a late-scheduled course) will charge $75 per participant. Late scheduled courses must be scheduled no later than 30 days in advance, and six participants must be pre-registered no later than 21 days prior to the course date, or the course will be cancelled.
