B. Qualification to 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Team

Nominees to the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team-Diving will be determined based upon the results of the 2004 FINA World Cup, Athens, Greece, February 18-22, and the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Diving, St. Peters, Mo., June 5-13, 2004.

The 2004 Olympic Games will conduct competition in men's and women's 3-meter springboard, 3-meter synchronized springboard, platform, and synchronized platform. Per gender, each country may qualify a maximum of two (2) divers in 3-meter springboard, two (2) divers in platform, one (1) team in 3-meter synchronized springboard and one (1) team in synchronized platform (a synchronized team consists of two divers). Although this provides for four (4) entry positions per gender per height (i.e. women's 3-meter springboard and women's 3-meter synchronized springboard), Olympic regulations permit only a maximum of three (3) divers per gender per height from each country. Therefore, if a country is qualified to enter two divers in women's 3-meter springboard and a team (2 divers) in women's 3-meter synchronized springboard, at least one of the synchronized divers must also participate in the 3-meter springboard. Countries may qualify for Olympic participation at the 2003 FINA World Championships, Barcelona, Spain, July 13-20, and the 2004 FINA World Cup, Athens, Greece, February 18-22.

EMPHASIS ON SYNCHRONIZED DIVING - US Diving has made a decision that if an entry position is available in a synchronized diving event, the nominees for that event will be determined before determining the nominees for the individual event in the same gender at the same height.

SYNCHRONIZED DIVING
The team with the highest score at the completion of a synchronized event at the 2004 U S Olympic Team Trials-Diving will be nominated to the U.S. Olympic Committee. The score for each team will be determined by adding the scores from the synchronized diving events at the following competitions:

1. Ten percent (10%) of their score from the finals of the 2004 FINA World Cup, but only if the team places 3rd or better.
2. One hundred percent (100%) of their score from the preliminaries of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials-Diving.
3. One hundred percent (100%) of their score from the finals of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials-Diving.

NOTE: The winning team in each synchronized diving event at the USA World Cup Trials will represent the USA in the 2004 FINA World Cup. Objective eligibility criteria to participate in the USA World Cup Trials, similar to section I(A) above, will be approved by the Committee for Competitive Excellence (CCE) by July 1, 2004. Publication and distribution of the procedures will be in accordance with section V below.
