Torres and Armando Velez … has one brother, John Erik, and one sister, Gisselle … won the Mary Lou Retton Award at U.S. Olympic Festival-'94 as the Festival's top male up and coming athlete … began diving in Puerto Rico when he was nine … attended ballet school in Puerto Rico … family moved to Orlando when we was 12 … enjoys playing tennis, basketball, golf and wake-boarding … collects basketball cards … small business owner … assistant coach for Team Orlando … trains five hours per day, 30 hours a week … favorite dive is a 207C (back 3 1/2 somersault tuck) off platform … listens to music between dives during a contest.

Other Accomplishments: 1998 and 1999 U.S. Diving Athlete of the Year … swept all three individual boards at the 1999 U.S. Spring National Diving Championships, the first male since Greg Louganis in 1988 … also won the synchronized platform with Justin Dumais at the same meet, making him the most decorated athlete at any U.S. nationals in history … seven-time U.S. junior champion … 1999 Top 10 finalist for the Sullivan Award … 2000 Top 5 finalist for the Sullivan Award … 2000 USOC Male Athlete of the Year-Diving.
